Sometimes I Forget To Do This…

Sometimes I forget to be grateful.

Like when I think about how many things need to be done around the house…

I sometimes forget that I have a safe, warm home—with plenty of food and clean, running water.

Or when I’m overwhelmed with all of the work I have to do…

I sometimes forget that I have a job and an important, fulfilling purpose.

Or when I get a headache because my kids won’t stop being loud…

I sometimes forget how much I love their voices and their playful spirit.

Or when I have to get up at the crack of dawn to take the dog outside…

I sometimes forget how great of a companion he is to me.

Sometimes, I forget to be grateful.

Like when I get so angry about how unjust life can be…

I sometimes forget that the universe brings me these experiences as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Sometimes, I forget to be grateful…

But not today.

I’m grateful to be alive.

I’m grateful for all that I’ve been through in this life.

And I’m grateful that my triumphs have given me the tools and experience to help others.

Last but certainly not least, I’m forever grateful for you and your support, my friend.

Don’t forget to take a moment today to just stop and look around.

Appreciate all the beauty that surrounds you. And give thanks for the many wonderful things you sometimes forget to be grateful for.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Be Well,

Jim Donovan, M.Ed.
